Increase your Community Wellbeing - VOTE!

By Abby Stern

We at the Aspen City of Wellbeing are looking beyond health care to shift culture towards an optimal state of human potential. To make this vision a reality we require an engaged community with a public office that has aligning views.

Helping to select the next leaders of our community, voting on vital local issues and participating in the democratic process are reason enough to vote in the upcoming Municipal Elections. But, it turns out, the civic duty of casting a ballot can enhance one’s overall wellbeing. [1]

Candidates in local elections are citizens and neighbors running on issues that hit close to home. The action of voting, evokes feelings of pride and ownership in one’s community, strengthening feelings of safety.

Voting increases social ties and feelings of belonging and connection in community. According to Stanford researchers, feeling part of a community is linked to the greater quality of life and longevity as well as positive indicators of future health and life satisfaction [2]. [Another great reason for enacting the ACW Love Ninja’s!]

Make sure you are an active citizen and contributing to your community by selecting a candidate that aligns with your values.
